PowToon is another cloud-based, animated video creation platform subscription included in my instructional development toolkit. PowToon was the first tool I used to create animated video. It is very user friendly and could be comparable to creating PowerPoint slides. Each slide can be developed to include a number of animated visuals and audio to include voice over narration and music. The advantage of using PowToon is the ease of use for first-time users and the ability to upload to YouTube, download to an MP4, or share on LinkedIn.

The process for creating an animated video consists of three stages:

  1. Script Development (write, record, edit)

  2. Video Development (select characters, scenes, animations, video timelines)

  3. Video Production (Add audio and narration to scenes. Export video

(i.e. MP4, YouTube, Twitter).

I recorded my own narrations in our Marketing team's sound booth and edited the recording using Adobe Audition. The script word.doc indicated where script would be recorded into small audio files and attached to specific Powtoon slides.

Below are two examples of Powtoon videos and scripts I  created for the FFR Training Selecting the Right Staff course to support content and engage learners in an asynchronous learning environment.
